President Joe Biden will visit Yorktown on Monday to talk about the administration’s educational efforts, according to the White House.
No other details were immediately available, but he is expected to tout efforts around school reopening and his proposed “American Families Plan,” a $1.8 trillion package focused on education, child care and paid family leave.
The proposal includes a $200 billion universal pre-K program for 3- and 4-year-olds and a $109 billion program that would pay for two years of community college. According to a fact sheet from the White House, it also includes tax hikes on high earners that would raise $1.5 trillion in the next decade.
Biden is expected to outline more details about the plan Wednesday in an address to a joint session of Congress. Thursday will mark his 100th day in office.
One of his stated goals for his first 100 days was reopening the majority of the country’s schools. In Virginia, almost every district has some in-person learning, and on the Peninsula, every district is offering some in-person learning in all grades.
York County has offered in-person learning for at least some students since early in the school year. Since April 12, it has offered four days a week of in-person classes.
