Regime administrator stabbed to death in Mandalay 20210626

100-household administrator Nyo Aye is killed by unidentified perpetrators while accompanying a monk who was collecting alms in a Pyigyidagun Township neighbourhood.
A 100-household administrator appointed by the junta was assassinated near a market in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay on Saturday morning.
Nyo Aye was attacked near the intersection of 58th and 59th streets and died while he was being transported to the hospital, according to a Mandalay resident.
“He had accompanied a monk who was collecting alms. While the monk was collecting alms inside a house, he was waiting outside on a motorcycle. Some unknown people stabbed him while he was waiting. We don’t know who did it,” a local woman told Myanmar Now.
She added that the feral dogs that live in that area are known for being aggressive, so when Nyo Aye shouted for help, people initially assumed that he had been bitten.
The junta’s troops arrived at the scene after the incident and fired gunshots before carrying out inspections and searching for houses that had security cameras installed and may have had footage of the murder, according to residents near the crime scene.
Myanmar Now is continuing to gather information about the stabbing and trying to speak to eyewitnesses.
Despite deadly crackdowns by the junta, anti-coup protests persist on a daily basis in Mandalay, and local resistance forces have continued to fight the regime’s armed forces.
On May 22, the junta’s troops raided a location where the Mandalay People’s Defence Force (MPDF) was stationed, and a shootout followed. There were casualties reported on both sides.
